2014 bamboo tour

2014 INBAR BAMBOO TOUR, JUNE, CHINA Date/Time Date(s) - 1/06/2014 - 11/06/2014 All Day Location Qingdao Expo, Zhejiang and Yunnan Provinces Category(ies) • Study Tour The objective of the annual bamboo study tours is to share the experience of Chinese bamboo development and to promote bamboo development in other countries. The tours commenced in 2005 and have run annually since 2007. They are very popular and are targeted to those wishing to gain a better understanding of the potential and practice that bamboo-based development have to offer, based on the China experience. The 2014 Bamboo Tour will visit 2014 Qingdao International Horticultural Exhibition, Zhejiang, Yunnan provinces. The cost in China is 2400$/person covering accommodation, food, transportation and entrance tickets in China during the tour. Participants should cover their international flights and the domestic flights to Qingdao of Shandong province and from Kunming of Yunnan province as well as travel insurance and their visa fees. In Qingdao City of Shandong Province, we will visit the following: • 2014 Qingdao International Horticultural Exhibition (estimated 15 million visitors) • INBAR garden in Qingdao Expo (ornamental bamboo plants and house, pavilions) • Bamboo Green House (10,000m2 green house) • Famous Qingdao Beer Museum • Sightseeing in coastal areas In Zhejiang Province the tour will visit the following: • Leading bamboo-flooring manufacturers such as DASSO. DASSO produced 230,000m2 bamboo fireproof ceiling in the Madrid international airport, which won the 2006 Sterling prize. DASSO is also producing the bamboo interior veneer for 70,000 BMW cars per year, 45m long bamboo wind turbine blades, and strand woven bamboo lumber and flooring as well bamboo furniture. • Companies producing bamboo concrete form and fiberboard, bamboo curtains and mats, bamboo extract such as flavonoid, bamboo beer, bamboo furniture, and bamboo processing machines. • Companies specializing in bamboo shoot processing. • Wenzhao (the biggest bamboo charcoal company producing charcoal and vinegar). • China Bamboo Charcoal Museum, the only bamboo charcoal museum in the world. • Community-level primitive processing workshops (bamboo strips). • Anji bamboo product markets (hundreds bamboo products including bamboo clothes). • The biggest bamboo botanic garden in the world, Anji Bamboo Garden, which has more than 300 bamboo species plus four giant pandas. The garden is home to the Chinese Bamboo Museum, a high-yield bamboo plantation, a bamboo film production base (eg Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) eco-tourism sites, and an ornamental bamboo nursery. • Anji Soil and Water Conservation Station under Ministry of Water Resource of China • Research institutions like Zhejiang Agro-Forestry University (bamboo products showroom, bamboo charcoal, bamboo tissue culture lab). • Local politicians and experts to discuss bamboo sector policies and technology, encouraging enterprisers to invest in other bamboo production countries such as Africa, Asia and America. In Yunnan Province, we will visit the following: • Bamboo museum • Tropical Bamboo Garden with over 300 species including the biggest bamboo species • Tropical Bamboo nursery and giant bamboo plantation • Bamboo tissue culture lab • Sightseeing in Kunming city After the tour, some participants will take part in three-days training course on bamboo cultivation and propagation in Kunming by 11-14 June.
